What is facial authentication?
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) confirms the identity of a user using two or more authentication of factors: something you have, something you know, and something you are. For example, a debit card uses two factors-you have a card and you know a Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Facial authentication adds the additional factor of something you are, similar to a fingerprint.
How is facial authentication different from facial recognition?
Facial recognition compares the user's face to an extensive database of known faces to identify the user. Facial authentication, however, compares the user's face only to the enrolled facial profile associated with the cardholder. When users scan their badge, their biometric data is retrieved and used for facial authentication.
How is facial authentication being used at the data center?
Facial authentication provides an extra layer of security. For authorized personnel to access the data center, you will need multiple forms of authentication through your badge, PIN, and facial authentication profile. Every entrance of the data center is equipped with a security vestibule that uses badge and PIN on the exterior door and badge and facial authentication on the interior door. There are some additional multi-tenant spaces that also have facial authentication readers for enhanced security and auditing.
